“The Extraordinary Greek People” Book Signings at the Embassy of Greece in Washington and at the Consulate General of Greece in New York

Events were held at both the Embassy of Greece in Washington, DC (January 24, 2023) and at the Consulate General of Greece in New York (April 19, 2023) to celebrate the release of the book by Andy Manatos, “The Extraordinary Greek People:  Their Remarkable Achievements and Philosophy for Living from Ancient Times to Today.”

In his book, Manatos, who is a longtime member of Leadership 100, is joined by sixty of the most successful Hellenes, led by the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of America Elpidophoros, who submitted personal essays reflecting on how Hellenism has impacted their lives and achievements.

In Washington,  The Ambassador of Greece to the US Alexandra Papadopoulou welcomed members of Congress, Administration officials, Ambassadors and many community leaders in attendance, including those featured in the book, such as Congressmen John Sarbanes and Chris Pappas; New York Times Chief White House Correspondent Peter Baker, with wife Susan Glasser of The New Yorker; AHEPA Supreme President Jimmy Kokotas and Chef Maria Loi.

In New York, Manatos was introduced by the Consul General of Greece in New York, Dinos Konstantinou, and his son and Manatos & Manatos President Mike Manatos, who serves on the Executive Committee of Leadership 100.

Among those present  in New York were Leadership 100 Chairman Demetrios G. Logothetis,  Leadership 100 Secretary Maria Allwin and Leadership 100 Executive Director Paulette Poulos, both of whom were featured in the book, Consul of Greece Dimitrios Papageorgiou,  President and CEO of the Red Apple Group John Catsimatidis, who is Vice Chairman of the Archdiocesan Council of the Greek  Orthodox Archdiocese and member of the Executive Committee of Leadership 100, and  who was also featured in the book, and other prominent leaders of the Hellenic community.

This book is “not only a story of the past, but also of the present – from the Golden Age of Greece to today. Filled with little known historical facts about Hellenism and the Greek people, anecdotes of what it means to be a Hellene, and an exploration of the unique Greek word `philotimo,’ or love of honor, which runs deep within every Hellene’s psyche,” said Andy Manatos.

Part of the profits will go to the not-for-profit organization Washington OXI Day Foundation.
