Drake G. Behrakis Honored with Philotimo Award by Hellenic Hearts

Drake G. Behrakis, Chairman of the National Hellenic Society (NHS), was recently bestowed with the esteemed Philotimo Award by Hellenic Hearts, a nonprofit organization based in Philadelphia in June 2023. Hellenic Hearts is dedicated to providing a safety net for individuals of Greek heritage in the Greater Philadelphia area. He is a longtime member and former member of the Board of Trustees of Leadership 100.

The Philotimo Award was presented to Behrakis during Hellenic Hearts’ annual Gala, which took place at Ellis Preserve on Sunday, June 4, 2023. Going beyond a typical gala, the event served as a platform to showcase Hellenic Hearts’ steadfast commitment to various commendable causes.

The gala supported numerous beneficiaries, including educational initiatives like the Filodoxia Scholar Program and Hellenic College Holy Cross, as well as cultural preservation organizations such as the National Hellenic Society and the Oxi Day Foundation.

Hellenic Hearts places a strong emphasis on empowering young individuals through its Educational Guidance Program. Through a range of initiatives such as mentoring, networking opportunities, admissions counseling, and professional programs, the Educational Guidance Program is dedicated to guiding Hellenic-American youth towards higher education and fostering their professional growth and achievements.

Under the leadership of Drake Behrakis as Chairman, the National Hellenic Society (NHS) stands as an influential association comprising Greek American leaders, visionaries, and philanthropists. Their shared mission is to preserve and celebrate Greek heritage, establishing a network of Greek Americans committed to supporting Hellenic culture, promoting the well-being of members and their families, and paying homage to their ancestors. Among the noteworthy initiatives undertaken by NHS is the opportunity for Greek American students to engage in mentoring relationships with esteemed Greek Americans from various fields across the nation.
